Terracotta pot pond help?
Hi I’ve bought a larger terracotta pot for the garden and painted it internally with pond liner.it also has a solar fountain can I put a couple of fish in this or do I need a 24/7 fountain as mine is just solar to keep a couple if goldfish.
I’d consider a water filter, which will clean the water as well as help aerate it. Check the maximum number of fish, for the water volume too – you stated it’s a large pot, but it’s still worth checking, to ensure that you have enough water to keep the fish. There’s a calculator here, that you can add the water volume, to work out the maximum fish that it will be viable to hold. – http://www.howmanyfish.com/
Water does lose its ability to hold oxygen the warmer it gets, so having a solar fountain would help increase oxygen levels during the warmer parts of the day. If you could add a battery, so that solar power is stored, as well as powering the fountain live, then you may be able to extend the hours that the fountain runs.
If you add plants, I’d encourage you to add oxygenating pond weed, as others are likely to result in debris build up, which could help clog your fountain.
